The SDSU Center for Autism is hosting a Yoga and Mindfulness Class for Teens with Autism (12-18 yrs old). Our partner, Nazdira Cuevas, will teach fun modified poses and breathing tools to regulate and reduce anxiety. She will help attendees create a mind/body connection and focus on the present that include social games (age appropriate) and a guided visualizations (aka yoga nap). 🙂
Guided Breath work and movement Fun poses for all abilities mind / body connection exercises Learn self regulation tools with Breath work Social games (age appropriate, all abilities) Guided meditation Sensory Friendly 45 minutes long Please remember to bring a yoga mat or blanket. If a teen needs a care taker, we encourage the caretaker to participate in the yoga class!
Nazdira was raised in a rural area in Jalisco, Mexico. She migrated to the U.S.A at the age of 9 with her family. Having faced many difficulties as a child, the seed was planted at a young age to find way to help others. Nazdira has worked in all branches of special education within SDUSD for the past 18 years. She has all been teaching yoga to children for the past 6 years. Nazdira teaches in the community as well as in the classroom. Although her emphasis is on special needs she able to bring all children of all abilities together to have a wonderful connecting and uniting time together. She is a mother of two and loves working and being around children as they have so much wisdom to share and are not afraid to follow their hearts desires.
