Disabled Babes Book Club
A virtual book club where disabled folks will get the chance to read a selection of books that feature disabled characters and/or are written by disabled authors.

At this meeting, we will be discussing Part 2: Becoming of the book Disability Visibility, edited by Alice Wong.

Disabled Babes Book Club is a virtual book club where disabled folks will get the chance to read a selection of books that feature disabled characters and/or are written by disabled authors. This group is for folks who are disabled (self-defined), chronically ill, those who experience chronic pain, have mobility impairments, and anyone who is navigating living outside of the spectrum of neurotypical and/or able-bodied norms. Also, we’re strong believers that everyone is a babe- thus our book club is open to folks of all genders.

We honor that every individual is their own expert and every individual has the right to make their own choices including how they explain, understand, address, and describe their lived experience, mental/physical health, and identities.

Join us on the 2nd Monday of each month @ 6:30PM-8:00PM EST for a group discussion of Disabled Babes Book Club’s current book choice. Over the course of three months, we will be reading one book and participating in open discussions about it during our monthly meetings. We’ll be releasing a schedule so you’ll know exactly what will be discussed at each meeting. Attendance is not mandatory- come as you are whenever you want! Live captions will be provided.

This book club is being co-facilitated by Bell Giannosa (they/them) and Alex Candage (ze/zir), disabled friends who are passionate about disabled representation and creating intentional spaces for disabled folks.

This space was made possible through a partnership between Peer Support Space and Basically Wonderful.

If you are unable to purchase the book we’re reading, please contact Bell Giannosa to discuss scholarship opportunities. Limited scholarships are available and are first come, however, we set money aside for this and really want money to not be a barrier. Please let Bell know if you could use help purchasing a book.

If you would like to donate towards this scholarship fund, please donate here.

We love our allies, but this space is not an ally space. This group will stay closed to its identity-specific patrons only. We will be posting our book recommendations, and encourage you to read them on your own if you’re looking for books with more disability representation.

For questions, accessibility needs, or book scholarships please contact Bell Giannosa at bell@basicallywonderful.online
